AC Repair in Iona, FL

Iona at a glance

Iona is a community of 16,908 people (2020) in southwestern Lee County, about 11 miles southwest of downtown Fort Myers and 4 miles from the Sanibel causeway. More than a third of its area is water, mostly the Caloosahatchee River estuary.

What that means for your AC

With tidal water on the north side, many Iona homes get salt-laden breezes that corrode outdoor coils and fasteners. A gentle freshwater rinse with the power off, and coated coils when replacing, help a lot; see AC maintenance.

Retirees and quiet homes

Iona's median age is 67.6, and many homes are lived in by retirees who are sensitive to heat and humidity. A reliable system and a contractor you know before an emergency make summer easier.

The 2022 tornado

On January 16, 2022, a strong EF2 tornado struck Iona, causing major damage and injuring three people. Winter storms like that are a reminder that outdoor units can be shifted, dented or showered with debris even outside hurricane season. After any severe storm, check that the unit still sits level on its pad, that the fins aren't crushed and that nothing is stuck against the coil. If it rattles, smells hot or won't start, leave it off and book an AC repair rather than running it damaged.
