AC Not Cooling in Fort Myers? Start Here
When the house starts warming up on a Lee County afternoon, these checks take a few minutes and often save a service visit.
Request an AC contractorThermostat
Cool mode, a setting below room temperature and fan on auto. Swap the batteries if the screen is dim.
Breaker and disconnect
Check the panel and the disconnect box by the outdoor unit. Reset a tripped breaker once only.
Filter
A dark, packed filter chokes airflow and can freeze the coil. Replace it and give the system time.
Ice
Ice on the copper lines or air handler means switch the cooling off and run the fan to thaw it for a few hours.
Drain pan
A full pan can trip the float switch and stop the AC. That's a drain problem, not a dead system.
Outdoor fan
With the system calling for cool, the outdoor fan should spin. Humming without spinning needs a technician.
Write it down
Note what you checked and what happened. It helps the contractor diagnose faster.
Next step
See AC repair and send a request.
Hot afternoons
On the hottest days an older system may run nonstop and still sit a few degrees above the setting. If it catches up by evening, it may simply be at its limit; if it never does, something is wrong.
